Doug Roberts Jr. Joining Consumers Energy's State Governmental Affairs Staff
JACKSON, Mich., Jan. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Doug Roberts Jr., who has more than a decade of experience in governmental affairs and as a legislative staff member, will be joining Consumers Energy's state governmental affairs team in Lansing.
Roberts comes to the utility from the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, where he serves as the organization's director of environmental and energy policy. In 2008, he worked closely with the Legislature to support passage of the Great Lakes Compact and enactment of comprehensive energy reform.
Roberts, who assumes his new post on Feb. 1, will report to Cathy Wilson, the utility's director of state governmental affairs.
"Doug is a seasoned professional with broad expertise in the legislative and political processes and extensive knowledge of key energy and business issues. He understands that providing Michigan's families and businesses with reliable and affordable energy is crucial to the state's long-term economic health," said David Mengebier, Consumers Energy's senior vice president of governmental and public affairs. Mengebier also serves as the utility's chief compliance officer.
Before joining the staff of the Chamber of Commerce in 2002, Roberts was a policy adviser for the Michigan House of Representatives on environmental, land use, and agricultural issues.
Roberts earned a bachelor of arts degree from Hope College and a master's degree in public administration from Michigan State University.
