From October 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009, Dots partnered with Susan G. Komen foundation to link the sale of its proprietary product with Dots charitable donation to the cause. Dots sold its signature Dots fragrance wrapped in a plush iconic puppy for $4.50; with $1 donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®; as well as a t-shirt for $10; with $3 donation. Dots promised the organization a minimum of $20,000, however surpassed the goal by an additional $30,000.
"We had an incredible response in helping our Organization raise money in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®," said Rick Bunka, Dots President. "In a time when many of us are pulling back, our customers and associates stepped up to the challenge in not only meeting our goal, but by more than doubling it."
"Dots is committed and passionate about the challenges facing our communities. Our Girlfriends Giving Back initiative is just one instance for Dots and our customers to do more, reach more women and save more lives. We live in a world where insurance costs have increased and preventative health screens have decreased due to economic hardships. Our donation can help make a difference in our communities fight against cancer," said Bunka.
According to the American Cancer Society, there will be an estimated 192,370 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in 2009 and 40,170 deaths from the disease. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, following lung cancer.
