PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, Aug. 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- After doTERRA Wellness Advocate Kelly Farley heard about the Hope Reins of Raleigh program on the radio, she knew that it was an organization she had to be a part of. Hope Reins of Raleigh is a program that allows hurting children and their families to receive healing therapy from interaction with horses. Volunteers like Kelly help these children relate to horses and experience a respite away from the pressure, anxiety, and frustration of the world.
The Hope Reins of Raleigh was founded to help the many children who are experiencing pain and sorrow in their everyday lives. Many children today are being abused, bullied, neglected, injured, or are witnesses of traumatic experiences. These experiences can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and other emotional and behavioral health issues. However, these issues of anxiety, emotional pain, and sadness can be overcome through the help of others, and in Hope Reins case, through the help of horses.
In order to provide a positive and healing experience for children who are facing or have faced hurt, the Hope Reins of Raleigh program offers horse sessions, roundups, and summer camps. During summer camp, these children can come and experience a horse-filled week of fun. They learn basic horse care skills and training techniques, and they even get to ride the horses. Roundups are events that help individuals build leadership skills and self-confidence through horse interaction. Here, children can participate in team-building activities and creative play with the horses. The organization also provides free sessions where each child is teamed with a leader and a horse for 60 to 90 minutes. These sessions are catered to the needs of each child's situation and usually include activities like participating in a farm chore, taking basic care of a horse, grooming, and, of course, riding.
The therapy portion of the organization is provided through the equine counselors, or in other words, the horses. Because horses are herd animals, they are looking for someone to lead them. This quality can encourage a child to search within his or herself to find leadership skills, and it can inspire a child to lead and care for the horses, which, in turn, can build a child's self-confidence.
The Hope Reins of Raleigh program is healing children with the aid of horses and is bringing smiles and hope to those who need their help. To learn more about the organization or how to donate, visit the Hope Reins of Raleigh website.
