PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, Oct. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- While she pursues her masters of public health, doTERRA Wellness Advocate Denise Della has also found time to use her interest in wellness to volunteer in her community. Denise has dedicated time to helping individuals with brain injuries at the Brain Injury Association in Hawaii. The Brain Injury Association (BIA) is a nonprofit group that seeks to improve the quality of life for those who are recovering from brain injuries by providing support, advocacy, and education. Denise helps with the Hawaii chapter of BIA, where people of Hawaii and other areas of the Pacific Basin can come for help after sustaining a brain injury.
After a traumatic brain injury, the recovery process can be long, painful, and frustrating. Those who have sustained a brain injury will often experience uncomfortable side effects for long periods of time. Along with cognitive, sensory, and memory problems, those with brain injuries often experience severe headaches and migraines, chronic fatigue, dizziness, nausea, and more during a normal day. For many, side effects like migraines and chronic fatigue can make it difficult to live a normal life, return to work, and fulfill other responsibilities. Aside from painful migraines, nausea, and dizziness, many brain injury victims also experience mood swings related to depressed or anxious feelings.
The Brain Injury Association in Hawaii offers support groups, educational meetings, and structured therapeutic programs for individuals who are recuperating from brain injuries. The programs at BIA are designed to help individuals cope with the mental, physical, and emotional difficulties that follow a serious brain injury.
As she pursues her masters of public health and prepares to become a physician in the future, Denise enjoys the opportunity she has to help people in her area who are suffering with the negative symptoms and side effects that follow a traumatic brain injury. She says, "My favorite part of my volunteer work is to see the smiles on people's faces, and help to make their life a little better each day."
