doTERRA Wellness Advocate Starts a Healing Center after Suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, Aug. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- After experiencing a traumatic brain injury, doTERRA Wellness Advocate Deborah Schlag was inspired to provide empowerment and resources for others going through the healing process following similar injuries. With this motivation, Deborah started the Awakenings Center for Inner Healing & Empowerment in North Carolina, a nonprofit charity that serves as a healing center and spiritual retreat for those healing from a brain injury. The center strives to provide visitors with the tools and knowledge that will help them on their journey to recovery.

Life after a brain injury can be tiring, frustrating, and unpredictable. Many of those who visit the Awakenings Center seek emotional support to help them throughout the recovery process. Individuals who have suffered a traumatic brain injury can often experience headaches or migraines, chronic fatigue, nausea, and dizziness. Along with physical side effects like migraines and chronic fatigue, many brain injury patients experience sensory issues or cognitive problems like blurred vision, sensitivity to light or sound, memory problems, or feelings of depression and anxiety.

Returning to a normal life of working, hobbies, and family responsibilities isn't easy for those with traumatic brain injuries who are experiencing constant headaches, chronic fatigue, or dealing with frequent mood changes. As someone who dealt with all of the physical and emotional difficulties that follow a traumatic brain injury, Deborah wants the Awakenings Center to serve as an outlet and support system for anyone currently in the aftermath of an injury. The center provides several programs and projects designed to help anyone looking for assistance, particularly when it comes to coping with the side effects that come after a traumatic brain injury.

After founding the center with her husband, Deborah now helps with day-to-day operations within the organization, assists with community outreach, and provides personal support for those who visit the center.
