doTERRA Wellness Advocate Serves on the Frontlines of Disaster Relief
With viruses and health issues, like hepatitis and malaria, already plaguing many countries, the added destructive effects of a natural disaster can increase health risks and devastation. However, EMPACT Northwest is a disaster relief program trained to help minimize the devastation after terrible disasters.
PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, March 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- doTERRA Wellness Advocate and search and rescue specialist Lisa Bishop and her trained canine have joined the volunteer efforts of EMPACT Northwest. EMPACT Northwest is a nonprofit organization that provides rescue training, disaster rescue and response relief, and medical education for underprivileged communities. Since 2010, they have peppered the globe with their specialized teams and are saving lives while educating communities to do the same.
The organization formed in response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Their search and rescue and medical response efforts were crucial during this hectic time. Haiti was already troubled with medical problems, viruses, and diseases like hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid fever, and malaria, and the earthquake's impact only increased Haiti's need for medical attention—to which EMPACT Northwest responded.
Natural disasters, like in Haiti, not only cause many life-threatening injuries, but as medical care and supplies grow thin, people suffering with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and asthma also face fatal consequences without proper supplies. EMPACT Northwest's teams help create solutions to these problems. Their efforts to provide quality medical care and rescue relief help get people the medical attention they need as quickly as possible.
Today, the organization has responded to many other disasters all over the world including the Nepal earthquake (2015), the Washington mudslide (2014), the Pakistan flood (2012, 2013), and many more. Their quick 12–24 hour responses to these disasters and their expert search and rescue and medical response teams have undoubtedly helped save numerous lives.
EMPACT Northwest's teams are made up of truly qualified staff and volunteers, like Lisa. Their teams consist of firefighters, paramedics, nurses, doctors, search and rescue personnel, and many other trained professionals. Being a volunteer for EMPCAT Northwest is highly competitive due to its rigorous and necessary requirements. Each member of the team works a significant amount of hours so that they are fully trained and qualified to be on the frontlines when a disaster strikes. Lisa believes that "possibly playing a role in saving a person's life is the ultimate reward and is what keeps us logging hundreds of hours of training time and miles every year." doTERRA Cares is an initiative through which doTERRA International recognizes and raises awareness for Wellness Advocates who contribute to worthy causes worldwide. doTERRA International is thrilled to share Lisa's success and service and recognizes her as this week's doTERRA Cares highlight!
