doTERRA Wellness Advocate Serves Her Community Through Garage of Blessings
Health problems like colds, hypothermia, and pneumonia can be correlated to insufficient clothing, but the Garage of Blessings is dedicated to providing clothing and additional supplies to safeguard and comfort those in need.
PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, March 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In Oak Harbor, Wash., many community members have banded together to support the Garage of Blessings, a store that provides material items for people in need. Julie Noddin, a doTERRA Wellness Advocate, has volunteered with the Garage of Blessings for two years, and to her, serving there has blessed her life just as much as it has blessed the people she's served.
The Garage of Blessings functions as a sort of thrift store where people who are homeless or cannot afford to spend money on material possessions can shop for free. The items in the store consist mostly of clothes, furniture, and toys. These items are donated by community members, and the Garage usually receives 400 donations per month. Volunteers like Julie work to organize the merchandise that comes through the store and keep things running smoothly.
Even though the Garage of Blessings is already providing clothing and supplies for individuals in need, their good influence does not stop there. Their efforts are helping to reduce health risks among those they serve. In locations such as Washington, the cold weather can have a significant impact on an individual's health. For those who do not have or cannot afford proper clothing to shield them from adverse elements, they can be more susceptible to things like colds, hypothermia, and pneumonia.
Cold viruses can be easily obtained, and when cold weather comes, if people are not properly dressed or do not have the warmth their bodies need, the weather can agitate cold viruses and possibly cause worse side effects such as pneumonia. Additionally, hypothermia, which is directly related to the body being exposed to cold temperatures, can also be a product of the lack of proper clothing. By providing clothing for those in need, the Garage of Blessings is helping people remain warmer and healthier through the cold season.
The Garage of Blessings also aids in building people emotionally. Many of the people that come into the store are going through very difficult and trying times, and as a result, some of them are experiencing anxiety and depression. But, through the Garage of Blessings, they are able to receive the support and supplies they need and leave feeling more fulfilled. For Julie, one of the best parts of the Garage of Blessings is "seeing the faces of people who come in with nothing and walk out being blessed."
