doTERRA Donates to GBS/CIDP Foundation International
For individuals with GBS (a rare auto-immune disease) and CIDP (a neurological disorder), the GBS/CIDP Foundation hosted an event to support them in their needs.
PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, March 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- For both people on foot and in a wheelchair, the GBS/CIDP Foundation International holds the Walk and Roll walk to support community members dealing with GBS, CIDP, and other similar disorders. On September 19, 2015, the foundation hosted its third annual Pittsburgh Walk and Roll. As part of the event, they held a raffle, in which the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation donated product to help raise money. The money raised from this event helps the GBS/CIDP Foundation provide easy access to accurate diagnosis, affordable treatments, and reliable support services for people with these disorders.

These disorders, GBS (Guillain-Barré Syndrome) and CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy), are part of a similar group of disorders that deal with an attack of bodily nerves. GBS is a rare auto-immune disease where the immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system. Symptoms of this auto-immune disease may include weakness and tingling in the legs, arms, and upper body. In severe cases, muscle use fails completely which can cause interferences with breathing and, in some cases, result in paralysis. GBS is also associated with viral or bacterial infections such as mycoplasma pneumonia, the flu, cytomegalovirus (a strain of the herpes virus), HIV, and AIDS. The cause of this auto-immune disease is unknown, but many known cases are preceded by lung infection or gastrointestinal infection.
CIDP is considered the chronic counterpart to GBS. CIDP is a neurological disorder which is caused by damage to the myelin sheath (a covering that protects nerve fibers) of the peripheral nerves. Some of the symptoms include numbness, weakness in the legs and arms, loss of deep tendon reflexes, and fatigue.
The GBS/CIDP Foundation International aims to improve the quality of life for those experiencing GBS, CIDP, and other similar syndromes. They achieve this goal by providing individuals and families affected by these syndromes with various forms of support, current information on the disorders, and educational programs that help increase awareness. They also provide programs and support events such as Walk and Roll, international symposiums, and annual celebrations. For thirty years, GBS/CIDP Foundation International has supported thousands of individuals struggling with these disorders and has been a powerful influence for good in the lives of those they help.
