PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, Nov. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- doTERRA employee volunteers were among more than 100 women who joined forces to help Habitat for Humanity of Utah County build its first "Women Build" home for a local single mother and her young children, and to address the need for affordable housing in Utah County.
"Habitat appreciates doTERRA, its employees and all those in our community that have helped make our first Women Build home possible," said Kena Mathews, executive director for Habitat for Humanity of Utah County. "Because of their wonderful efforts, a young mother with two children will be able to realize their dream of safe and affordable homeownership."
Krystle Long, the recipient of the home, is a single mother of two children, ages 12 and 5. Her husband passed away two years ago from a drug overdose. As part of Habitat's program, Long is required to contribute 350 sweat equity hours and take multiple classes in preparation of ownership. The family will move into their new home in December, thanks to the many generous donations and volunteers.
"We are pleased yet not surprised that our employees are so quick to volunteer for such worthy projects like building this home. The spirit of volunteerism is alive and strong at doTERRA and something we plan to ensure will continue to make a positive impact in our community," said Emily Wright, founding executive and vice president of sales and marketing for doTERRA. "Home ownership changes people's lives for the better. It's very powerful to see women from doTERRA and the entire community come together to provide a solid beginning for families in need."
Habitat for Humanity of Utah County's first full Women Build home is part of Habitat for Humanity International Women Build Program. The program brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide. Interested women are given the opportunity to learn construction skills and build homes and communities.
The women volunteers building the house come from the "Circle of 100." The circle is comprised of 100 team leaders, with groups of 10 women each, who donate $1,000 toward the necessary costs of constructing the home.
