Starting two years before her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2002 at 54 years old and following the events that led to his death in 2008, Dausey explains how Jim progressed through the disease by relaying actual stories from her past experience in caregiving. About the Author

The oldest of four children, Dausey learned patience and caregiving at an early age when her mother contracted polio. Soon after her mother's tenuous recovery, her sister Karen and two brothers, Zed and Karl, were born. Dausey fell into the role of oldest sister, mother's helper, and practically the vice president of the family when her father was at work. Because the family moved frequently, she attended many school districts in several states. When the family settled in 1963, Dausey met Jim, and they married shortly after high school. They never had any children, but they were everybody's favorite aunt and uncle, often called upon to become godparents by their many friends. The most devastating day of her life was when her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and the worst day of her life was when she had to put him in a home. She still works to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association through the Jim Dausey Memorial Poker Run for Alzheimer's, which will again run for its third year this August 2010. With Jim's Journey, her first official publication, Dausey hopes to increase public awareness of Alzheimer's by telling his story so that his death will finally have meaning.
