SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., Dec. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sovereign Health, a leading national provider of behavioral health treatment services, announces a new television interview about interventions. The interview, featuring Donna Hugh, Program Director at Sovereign Health of Los Angeles, was first broadcast live on the NBC affiliate KMIR's program "Desert Living" on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
Addiction and mental illness are issues that have a tremendous impact on everyone involved in the addicted person's life, from spouses, siblings, parents and children to co-workers and friends. If family and friends suspect a loved one is dealing with alcohol or drug abuse, it may be difficult to know where to start, what to do and how to find resources to help.
"Everyone knows about addiction, and how it robs the brain. Watching someone you love circling the drain and going down quickly is terrifying, especially when you don't know what to do," says Ms. Hugh. "What you need to do is call an interventionist. An interventionist can step in when you don't know what to do and help guide you, friends and family on what you should do in order to assist your loved one."
As Ms. Hugh notes in the interview, an intervention can be a helpful tool for the family and friends of an addicted person who is resistant to addressing his or her problem. "An interventionist is called when the loved ones know the signs and symptoms reach a new level. A 'coach date' is scheduled first with friends and family to discuss the person's behavior, and they do a trial run of the intervention. When the intervention is scheduled, usually a day or two after the coach date, everyone tells their loved one the reasons why they need to listen and accept help."
Ms. Hugh continues, "We coach them and plan for the intervention. It's like a military operation, where each person gets their assignment. Usually the following day, the group will surprise the identified patient with an intervention."
Sovereign Health operates nine treatment facilities in five states: California, Arizona, Florida, Texas and Utah. The facilities are fully licensed and have been awarded Gold Seal accreditation by The Joint Commission, the highest level of accreditation available in the behavioral health field. "Desert Living" is a 30-minute TV program broadcast from Palm Springs in the desert's Coachella Valley.
