OMAHA, Neb., May 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Donald Leu, former president and CEO of Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) of Nebraska, recently announced his retirement from GreenPath Financial Wellness, a nationwide, non-profit financial counseling and education organization.
Leu, GreenPath community engagement liaison, is retiring after more than 35 years in the credit counseling business. Leu's former CCCS of Nebraska organization, founded in 1976, merged into GreenPath in early 2015.
"Over the last four decades, Don has been a driving force behind providing thousands of Nebraska consumers with financial guidance and debt management assistance," said Donna McNeill, GreenPath chief operating officer. "Nationally, he has distinguished himself as a leader in the credit counseling sector. Don has a way of instantly becoming a trusted friend with anyone he meets. He will be missed."
Leu joined CCCS of Nebraska in Omaha in early 1981. A few months later, he assumed the role of president and never looked back. Over the years, he expanded operations to serve more Nebraska consumers, by adding offices in Lincoln, Grand Island, North Platte, Norfolk and several additional satellite offices throughout the state.
Leu currently serves on the board of trustees for the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC). He has served the NFCC in a variety of capacities, including chairman of the board from 2004-2006, and vice chairman of the board prior to assuming the chairman role.
One of Leu's most notable accomplishments occurred in 2004, when he led a selection committee, comprised of major creditors and CCCS members that selected Susan C. Keating as president and CEO of the NFCC. Keating still serves in this capacity today. "Don has been a tremendous asset to the NFCC over many years," said Keating. "His leadership as chairman of the NFCC board of trustees and work on numerous committees will leave a lasting legacy."
Leu is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, with a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public administration. He served on the board of directors of the Omaha Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Bank of Kansas City for six years, and has been active in many non-profit organizations.
