Dominion East Ohio Customers Have Received $4.4 Million In Rebates Since 2010 Through Home Performance With ENERGY STAR® Program
CLEVELAND, Jan. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dominion East Ohio customers have received $4.4 million in rebates from efficiency projects resulting from the company's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® audit program (HPwES) since its 2010 inception.
The company noted that the HPwES program has conducted more than 14,000 home energy audits, including 3,177 completed between Jan. 1 and Nov. 30, 2014, the last month for which complete statistics are available.
Dominion East Ohio implemented the program, administered through GoodCents, to help residential customers improve their homes' energy efficiency and reduce their natural gas usage, which should result in lower gas bills. A home performance assessment, or energy audit, is the first step in improving a home's energy efficiency through this program. Under a Dominion East Ohio subsidy, customers can obtain an HPwES audit, which carries a retail value of $500, for just $50.
GoodCents auditors are certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI). BPI is a national resource for building science technology that sets standards for assessing and improving the energy performance, as well as the health environment of homes. Each auditor, trained to use the most advanced, state-of-the-art equipment, takes a "whole-house" approach when testing customers' homes and identifying energy efficiency improvements.
During the assessment, which can last up to four hours, a GoodCents auditor will use advanced diagnostic equipment to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the home's energy efficiency. Through this energy efficiency assessment the auditor will gather information regarding the existing condition of customers' home, explain what improvements can be made and present customers with a report containing the results of the assessment. The auditor can also provide customers information on how to select a participating area contractor should they choose to complete the recommended improvements and take advantage of up to $1,250 in rebates offered through this program.
To participate in the program, customers must be an individually metered residential Dominion East Ohio customer with an active account. To qualify for rebates through the program, customers must use a GoodCents auditor for the assessment and a participating contractor when making recommended improvements.
