Dominion CEO Thomas Farrell Delivers Keynote Address at CERAWeek 2012
RICHMOND, Va., March 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Dominion (NYSE: D) Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas F. Farrell II today called for the creation of a position of a White House-based National Energy Adviser to the President. His proposal came during a keynote speech at the 31st annual IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates (IHS CERA) executive conference, CERAWeek 2012, Energy and the Economy: Quest for Growth in Houston.
"The important thing is keeping this issue front-of-mind in the presidential mentality, so that it never becomes a lesser thought," Farrell said. "Should energy be up there with foreign affairs and national defense? I find it hard to believe otherwise. If we fail to get energy right, how do we get anything else right?"
Farrell also said that any national energy strategy must reduce the use of fossil fuels, including oil for transportation, and recognize America's expectation that electricity will continue to be reliable and affordable. Improving energy literacy, streamlining and better coordinating the regulatory structure, and demanding national leadership can help develop and implement a comprehensive, coherent, long-term national energy policy, he said.
Farrell was joined during the opening keynote policy dialogue by Daniel Yergin, chairman of IHS CERA, and G. Steven Farris, chairman and CEO of Apache Corporation.
