Dominican University to Award Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarships for Fall 2, 2011 Online Session
Deadline to apply for two scholarships, each valued at 33% of 2011-2012 tuition, is October 9, 2011
TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Dominican University, a U.S. News & World Report-ranked and regionally accredited university, in partnership with University Alliance and Bisk Education, is pleased to announce that applications are currently being accepted for the Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship for the Fall 2, 2011 online session of the university's Master of Education degree program.
These scholarships will help gifted educators excel by earning an MAEd in Reading, Elementary Education, or English as a Second Language through the convenience of Dominican's degree programs, offered 100% online. According to the Department of Education's Digest of Education Statistics 2010, a teacher who holds a master's degree can earn an annual salary of over $11,000 more than those with a bachelor's degree.
For the Fall 2, 2011 session, each of the two available scholarships is valued at more than $5,400 per student - 33% of 2011-2012 tuition. As long as the students remain in good academic and financial standing in Dominican's online program, recipients will receive these special tuition rates through graduation.
"Dominican University is proud to honor accomplished educators with the opportunity to pursue higher academic and professional goals through these education scholarships," said Sister Colleen McNicholas, Dean Emerita of the School of Education. "We look forward to helping foster their further success."
Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a first-time applicant to one of the three Dominican University online Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) degree programs
- Teach in a classroom or work in school administration at the time of application
- Demonstrate that they have had a positive impact on the lives of others
- Hold a bachelor's, master's, specialist, or doctorate degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA from a regionally accredited institution
The deadline to apply is October 9, 2011. For more information or to apply for the scholarship, contact a program representative at 800-441-5408 or visit http://www.dominicanu.com/graduate-scholarships-teachers/ where you can also download the scholarship application. Since the Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship program's inception in July 2010, a total of 18 students have been awarded $94,802.40 in scholarships.
Dominican University's MAEd degree programs, offered 100% online with no campus visits required, provide students with the flexibility of 24/7 access to courses using a video-based e-learning model with interactive communication. With the availability of scholarships for new students, this is an excellent time for educators to consider pursuing a master's degree online.
