Dominican University of California Plans to Host 2010 General Election California Governor's Debate
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., May 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dominican University of California, in association with the NBC Universal owned-and-operated California television stations, announced today that it intends to host the 2010 Governor's debate in October at Angelico Hall.
"As we prepare to choose a new leader, Californians are looking for information. As an institution of higher education that for the past 120 years has educated thousands of Californians, Dominican is delighted to offer a platform for the candidates to address the complex issues facing our State," said Dominican President Joseph R. Fink.
"Dominican University of California is proud to host this momentous event, and along with the NBC stations, we are committed to making the debate accessible to a wide audience. Of particular importance to us is the prospect of involving so many young people. As we saw during the 2008 Presidential race, college students can play a significant role in the electoral process."
Dominican and the network owned California stations have agreed to air the debate live throughout the State on NBC Bay Area, KNBC Los Angeles and KNSD San Diego. Combined, the three stations reach 72% of California television viewers.
"I believe that this debate will be one of the most watched conversations on a state and national level," said Phil Alongi, Executive Producer for the debate and a veteran experienced in producing political and election news coverage. "This year's mid-term elections will be pivotal in shaping the next chapter of American political history. California's story plays a big role in the events that will unfold over the next couple of months."
Angelico Hall, built in 1921 as a music conservatory, will serve as the venue for the debate. As Californians consider the candidates for governor on the June 8th primary ballot, planning is underway for this general election event. Invitations to major candidates will be made in the fall as determined by statewide polls.
