SEATTLE, Jan. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- DomainTools, the leader in domain name and DNS-based cyber threat intelligence, today announced that internationally recognized security researcher Kyle Wilhoit is joining the company to lead its threat research team. Wilhoit will spearhead DomainTools' efforts to do primary research on DNS-related exploits, investigate current cyber threats, and explore attack origins and threat actors. Wilhoit brings more than a decade of experience leading research teams to deliver timely and organized threat intelligence to internal and external customers.
Before joining DomainTools, Wilhoit was a threat researcher for Trend Micro, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, where he was responsible for identifying, vetting, and exposing threat actors, performing research on the deep web and dark web, and leading forensic investigations into high priority security incidents. At DomainTools, Wilhoit will also be involved in advising the company on product initiatives that can drive increasing value to its growing enterprise customer base.
"Kyle is a well-respected and highly talented security researcher and we're extremely fortunate to have him join the DomainTools team," said Tim Chen, CEO of DomainTools. "His combination of hands-on cybersecurity experience, industry credibility, and internal drive will help expose the true power of our industry-leading data and Iris platform and allow us to contribute primary threat research out to the security community."
Prior to Trend Micro, Wilhoit spent more than a decade performing threat analysis and leading security research teams for large companies, including a tier-one internet service provider and a large energy company. He has presented at cybersecurity conferences around the globe, notably FIRST 2016, Black Hat USA, and Infosecurity Europe, and his research has supported investigative stories in several publications, including ABC, CNN, BBC, The New York Times, WIRED, MIT Technology, and many additional outlets.
"What attracted me most to DomainTools is its complete dedication to providing actionable threat intelligence to help security teams adequately arm their organization against malicious activity," said Wilhoit. "I've been a DomainTools user for four years and know first-hand how powerful and invaluable their data is. This client-side experience should prove useful to the company as it matures its already robust product offerings in 2017. And I'll have first-hand access to their unique data sets that will inform my ongoing research on the latest and most nefarious cyberthreats. I'm extremely excited to get started here."
