PESSAC, France, October 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
Commemorating the 75th anniversary of their family company, Domaine Clarence Dillon continues its series of worldwide charity auctions and proudly announces its support of the William J. Clinton Foundation. Established by President Bill Clinton, the Foundation is charged with the mission of improving health, strengthening economies, and protecting the environment around the world.
A Family Legacy of Philanthropy
Domaine Clarence Dillon launched its series of worldwide charity auctions in May 2011 during the Cannes Film Festival with the celebrated Cinema Against Aids Gala, in favor of the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR). One exceptional, limited-edition wine console, holding a selection of the most remarkable wines produced at Château Haut-Brion over the past eight decades was successfully sold.
With a limited number of consoles left, Domaine Clarence Dillon has donated two - one white and one red - to be auctioned off as one exceptional lot in support of the William J. Clinton Foundation and to honor the "A Decade of Difference" celebration in Los Angeles, taking place on October 14.
"The importance of Philanthropy is undoubtedly one of the greatest legacies left to our family by Clarence Dillon. Our Domaine Clarence Dillon anniversary consoles bring together his love of design, art, and excellence and raise funds for deserving causes around the globe. I am honoured and happy to support President Clinton's relentless efforts to improve health, education and the environment around the world. We wish the President and the Foundation many more years of successful, important work and reinforce our support now and in the future," said Prince Robert of Luxembourg, great-grandson of Clarence Dillon and president of Domaine Clarence Dillon.
About the Auction Lot: The 75th Anniversary Consoles
In collaboration with Lord Linley (the founder of Linley fine bespoke furniture), Prince Robert of Luxembourg, commissioned and designed a limited series of 20 wine consoles and cases (15 red and 5 white), a true work of art intended to house the most prestigious collection of Château Haut-Brion vintages produced over 8 decades at Château Haut-Brion.
After more than two years of work, the result is a true masterpiece: a wine console marquetry inlaid table and chest, made from rare woods and with the capacity to hold eight of the most prestigious wines by Domaine Clarence Dillon. A true treasure trove of the finest Château Haut-Brion wines, the console also has various secret drawers with magnificent silver inlaid objects designed by the famous Italian jeweller Buccelatti. All of the objects within the caskets are inspired by vine leaves, the emblem of Domaine Clarence Dillon, and are stamped Château Haut-Brion or Domaine Clarence Dillon.
The bottles kept in these consoles have never left the Estate's cellars.
The auction lot comes with a magnificent wooden box containing two "Haut-Brion" carafes and 12 glasses, each decorated with the monogram of Domaine Clarence Dillon and Château Haut-Brion.
As 2010 is the vintage anniversary of Château Haut-Brion, unveiled during the "semaine primeurs"* and highly acclaimed by critics, the lucky acquirer of the Domaine Clarence Dillon package will also receivea case of six Château Haut-Brion red and a case of six Château Haut-Brion white wines from the 2010 vintage.*
The red console includes the following vintages: 1935, 1945**, 1959, 1961, 1975, 1989, 1990 and 2009.
The white console includes the following vintages: 1969, 1976, 1983, 1989, 1994, 2003, 2005 and 2007.
* The two 2010 cases will be delivered in Autumn 2012, when bottled.
** This 1945 bottle is one of 7 remaining in Château Haut-Brion's cellars and it has never left the Estate.
