MIAMI, Feb. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dolphins Cancer Challenge, the signature initiative of the Miami Dolphins Foundation's health pillar, is set to kick off this Saturday, Feb. 11, with support from BBVA Compass, Lennar Corporation and The Harcourt M. and Virginia W. Sylvester Foundation.
Launched in 2010, the annual event raises funds for cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami. The event offers participants an opportunity to ride, walk, run, volunteer or donate throughout South Florida through all routes culminating at Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Dolphins.
"This is a growing event and our employees eagerly wanted to be part of it," said BBVA Compass South Florida Market President Roberto Muñoz. "Breakthroughs in cancer research provide bright futures and create opportunities for more people to live bright. These are values that are woven into the fabric of what BBVA Compass stands for, just like our name is woven into this year's cycling jerseys. We're honored to work with the Miami Dolphins and other supporting organizations that have the same values as we do."
The Dolphins Cancer Challenge includes bike routes from 14 to 100 miles, with participants also given the opportunity to join in a 5k run/walk at the stadium. Since the inaugural event, participants have raised a total of more than $16.5 million.
DCC VII weekend will commence with the Kickoff Party on Friday, Feb. 10, followed by the DCC signature event on Saturday Feb. 11 that will include five bike routes through South Florida, a run/walk 5K, a finish line celebration concert as well as the addition of a Dolphins Youth Ride and a Youth 5K for kids ages 14-17 – extending the opportunity for cancer fighters to be of all ages and all capabilities.
