'Dog Whisperer' Cesar Millan and Celebrity Friends 'Adopt, Don't Shop'

WHO:

"Dog Whisperer" Cesar Millan, True Blood star Michelle Forbes, Mad TV's Debra Wilson, Los Angeles Postmaster Mark Anderson, West Hollywood City Council Member Jeffrey Prang, Los Angeles Animal Services General Manager Brenda Barnett, and celebrity friends on the green carpet.  

WHAT:

Puppy Mill Awareness Day festival hosted by Last Chance for Animals (LCA).  Celebrities, elected officials, bands, food and animal friendly activities for children.  Free event to raise awareness about inherent cruelty behind buying puppies and kittens in pet stores.  Rescue organizations will be on hand to adopt homeless animals.  

WHEN:

Saturday, September 18, 2010 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm – public event.  Shelter animal adoption stamp dedication by Post Master Mark Anderson at 11:30 am.  Puppy mill rescue grant presentation by "Dog Whisperer" Cesar Millan at 11:45 am.  LCA Founder Chris DeRose remarks at 12:00 Noon.

La Brea Tar Pits, 5801 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, California.

WHY:

According to the Humane Society of the United States, 4 to 5 million homeless dogs and cats are killed in U.S. shelters every year due to overpopulation.  Concurrently, nearly 6,000 federally licensed commercial breeders in the US produce an estimated 5 million puppies and kittens each year for sale in the pet trade.  "Adopt, Don't Shop" rallies the public to save animal lives by adopting homeless pets from shelters and never to buy them from pet stores or off the internet.  Visit http://www.lcanimal.org for information.
