Doane Road Storage Clears Way for U-Haul Trucks in Queensville

Doane Road Storage opened in 1990 as an indoor and outdoor car storage facility. It added self-storage units six years later. Mayhew got into the business after he helped a friend move items from a storage unit and concluded that he could provide a better service.

Mayhew wanted a change of pace from his financial career and once the 4.5-acre property came available, he purchased it. Adding U-Haul trucks to Doane Road Storage was an easy call since customers often need to ship their items to and from the storage facility.

"U-Haul drives some of the traffic for our storage units and vice versa," Mayhew said. "It makes it more convenient."

With 89 self-storage units, 200 outdoor parking spots and 60 indoor parking spots, Doane Road Storage provides a necessary service to its residents 59 kilometers north of Toronto.

Since only 600 people reside in Queensville, Mayhew said, he is hopeful new developments will bring more business to the community in 2015.

"We are out in the middle of nowhere," Mayhew said.

Mayhew noted that since partnering with U-Haul, his customers have become very receptive to the idea.
