DNV GL to Launch Offshore Wind Cost Reduction Manifesto and New Joint Industry Project to Secure Turbine Reliability at WindEnergy Hamburg 2014
HAMBURG, Germany, September 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
DNV GL, the world's largest resource of independent energy experts (uniting Garrad Hassan, KEMA, DNV, GL Renewables Certification), will be participating at the WindEnergy Hamburg global on-&-offshore expo from the 23rd to the 26th of September (stand EG. 419 in Hall B4).
WindEnergy Hamburg will see DNV GL reveal the findings of its latest report "Offshore wind: a manifesto for cost reduction." Industry action on reducing offshore wind costs is widely regarded as essential to secure the future of this strategically important energy source in Northern Europe as well as in new markets in Asia and North America. DNV GL's offshore wind experts will highlight the challenges and opportunities for securing the future of offshore wind and explain why achieving cost reduction is about more than just new technology and innovation.
DNV GL will also be running a survey on-stand during the first two days of the event, asking the question; "What is the most effective way of achieving offshore wind cost reduction?"
Matching the opening question of the cost reduction manifesto, the results will provide a direct insight into the industry's take on the challenge of bringing the cost of energy down. The results of the survey will be announced on Wednesday 24th September during the stand party event at 4.30pm.
Additionally, DNV GL will use the event as a platform to invite interested parties from across the energy industry to join a new Joint Industry Project (JIP) to increase turbine reliability by improving life-time calculations of slewing bearings. Aiming to increase the safety and reliability in slewing bearings, the new JIP aims to work with stakeholders from wind turbine designer and manufacturer to owners and operators of wind farms in order to cooperatively decrease the damages in the field.
At the event, DNV GL will also handover a certificate to Meridian Energy, New Zealand's largest renewable energy generator, for its maintenance activities of their wind farms West Wind and Te Uku. The certificate helps Meridian Energy to produce and provide reliable energy sourced from the wind for about 90,000 average New Zealand homes. The certificate handover will take place on Tuesday 23 September at 11 am at DNV GL's stand EG.419 in Hall B4.
The event will be attended by the CEO of DNV GL - Energy David Walker and senior executives Andreas Schröter, Executive Vice President Renewable Certification and Johan Sandberg, Service Line Leader for Offshore Renewable Energy at DNV GL who will be on hand to advise on challenges faced by those in the wind industry.
