WASHINGTON, Aug. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Earlier today on a press conference call with reporters Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus joined failed gubernatorial candidate and current Illinois GOP Chairman Pat Brady to level baseless attacks toward President Obama leading up to the President's trip to Illinois. In response to the GOP's attack, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement:

"President Obama has shown tremendous leadership in the past two years. When he first came into office, our country was losing on average 750,000 jobs a month. Now we have begun to turn that around and have seen positive private sector job growth for the past 16 months. Of course there is so much more to do. Folks in Illinois and across the country are still hurting, but we've seen significant progress over the past two and a half months, thanks to the policies and leadership of President Obama and no thanks to the failed economic ideologies and leadership of Republicans.
"Here in Illinois we have benefited from a myriad of initiatives from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which has created nearly 150,000 jobs in our state, to the almost five million middle-class families that have received tax cuts and the nearly 6,000 teachers who still have jobs all thanks President Obama's leadership."
