"In an op-ed in the Concord Monitor today, Mitt Romney never once mentions his record as governor of Massachusetts. It is no wonder, given that Massachusetts ranked 47th in job creation during his tenure," said DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse. "At a time when the nation faces an economic crisis over the potential of defaulting on our nation's obligations, Mitt Romney has stayed on the sidelines, instead attacking President Obama while in reality, it's Romney's jobs and economic record as Governor of Massachusetts which has been called 'abysmal' by at least one rival campaign. If Mitt Romney wants to run on the issues of the economy and jobs he should run on his record as governor of Massachusetts. We'd even suggest a bumper sticker: 'Mitt Romney: Vote for Me! I Finished 4th from Last in Jobs!!'"
Fact Checking Mitt "47th out of 50" Romney
Under Mitt Romney, Massachusetts Ranked 47th In Job Creation. "The Republican contender was the governor of Massachusetts from January 2003 to January 2007. And during that time, according to the U.S. Labor Department, the state ranked 47th in the entire country in jobs growth. Fourth from last. The only ones that did worse? Ohio, Michigan and Louisiana. In other words, two rustbelt states and another that lost its biggest city to a hurricane. The Massachusetts jobs growth over that period, a pitiful 0.9%, badly lagged other high-skill, high-wage, knowledge economy states like New York (2.7%), California (4.7%) and North Carolina (7.6%). The national average: More than 5%." [Marketwatch, 2/23/10]
