DK Announces Family-Friendly Science Experiments Book Tour in New York City Area September 25-October 2
NEW YORK, Sept. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Make it happen this fall with DK's Maker Lab tour. Award-winning and bestselling book publisher DK announces New York-area schedule of interactive book events with author Jack Challoner. Fans will meet Jack, hear him discuss being an author and scientist, have their books signed, and enjoy live project demonstrations. From sticky slime to invisible ink: science has never been this fun!
The tour kicks off Sunday, September 25, at POWERHOUSE Arena at 28 Adams Street in Brooklyn, NY. Families will break into teams to build sturdy Popsicle-stick bridges and test them with the weight of books; prizes will be awarded to the team whose bridge can hold the most weight. DK next heads to the Ocean County Library in Lakewood, NJ, for an evening of solar system and physics fun on Wednesday, September 28 at 6:30 p.m.
From 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, October 1 & 2, the Maker Lab crew will be at the seventh annual World Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science in Corona, Queens. Ticketed customers may visit the DK booth to meet the author, participate in experiments, and take a spin on the prize wheel. Demonstration of a liquid density tower will occur at the Make: Show & Tell Stage from 1:00 p.m.–1:30 p.m.
The tour concludes at WORD Jersey City at 123 Newark Avenue at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2. Full tour schedule can be found here: http://www.dk.com/us/explore/events/us-maker-lab-tour/.
Created in association with the Smithsonian Institution and supporting STEM education initiatives, Maker Lab includes 28 kid-safe projects and crafts appropriate for kids ages 8–12. Requiring only household materials, young makers can build an exploding volcano, race balloon rocket cars, and more. Photographs and facts carefully detail the "why" and "how" of each experiment using real-world examples to provide context so kids can gain a deeper understanding of the scientific principles applied.
Author Jack Challoner is available for interviews.
