DIY Decline: Get New Doors Fitted by Professionals, Say Todd Doors
LONDON, May 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
After AA research highlights waning DIY skills amongst Brits, leading timber door suppliers support the services of professionals
After recent research published by the AA earlier this month found that younger men and women in the UK are now less likely to know how to complete menial DIY tasks around the home, leading timber door suppliers, Todd Doors, are encouraging customers to book professional help if they do not know how to fit newly ordered doors themselves- as any mishap can result in high repair costs.
The survey, carried out by AA Home Emergency Response, asked men and women across the UK whether they could competently perform a wide range of household/DIY tasks, such as changing a plug or bleeding a radiator, without assistance. Only 52 percent of men and 33 percent of women between the ages of 25 and 34 affirmed that they could indeed perform stated tasks. (This is in comparison to 79 percent of men and 43 percent of women, both aged above 55, who are deemed 'DIY proficient'- able to complete household tasks.)
With these figures in mind, Todd Doors are encouraging customers to seek the services of professionals when having their new interior or exterior doors fitted, as any mistake or unnecessary mishap can result in high home repair costs.
The West London outfit say one of the most common mistakes customers make is to stubbornly believe they can complete tasks by themselves- even if they have no prior knowledge of how to perform them.
"Fitting a door may seem like a simple task, but if you've never done it before and make any sort of mistake, the subsequent costs could be so much higher than you were expecting. You could damage the door, the door frame or even the wall, if you went far enough," says a spokesperson for Todd Doors.
"In both our showrooms [in London and Bournemouth] we purposely display contact information for local door fitters, should customers need a professional fitter. We strongly advise customers to get their doors fitted by professionals if they lack the know-how to complete the task themselves."
Todd Doors do not themselves provide a professional fitting service, but as aforementioned do include contact information for local door fitters. If customers are unable to visit a store, Todd Doors do recommend visiting local timber yard or building merchants to find details of door fitters/carpenters near to where you live.
