Diverse Group of Schools to Celebrate School Choice and Civic Engagement
DENVER, Jan. 16, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Students and staff from nine diverse Colorado private schools will gather at the Capitol for a Civics Day on Wednesday, Jan. 23, as part of School Choice Week.
During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to tour the Capitol building, observe Senate and House proceedings, meet their elected officials, and enjoy lunch with state lawmakers. If you are interested in covering the event, please contact Ross Izard to arrange details.
This event is planned to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2019, which will feature more than 40,000 school choice events across all 50 states.
"Colorado is home to a vibrant and diverse school community, and private schools play an important role in that landscape," said Ross Izard, director of policy for ACE Scholarships. "It's important for lawmakers and others to understand that schools from across all sectors of education, including private schools, serve kids in their unique communities each and every day. We're excited to get kids involved in civic learning and share the stories of these incredible schools with state leaders."
This event is being organized by ACE Scholarships, a nonprofit organization that raises money from generous donors and then awards financial scholarships to students from low-income families so they can attend the school of their choice.
As a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for students, families, and communities around the country. From January 20 through 26, 2019, more than 40,000 independently-planned events will be held in celebration of the Week. For more information, visit www.schoolchoiceweek.com.
