Display Week 2016 Business Conference to Focus on Innovation
SID and IHS seek insights from industry leaders to explore innovations in display technology and to face new challenges and opportunities
CAMPBELL, Calif., March 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Society for Information Display (SID), in collaboration with market intelligence firm IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), today announced the final schedule of topics and speakers for its annual Business Conference during Display Week 2016 in San Francisco, Calif. This year's Business Conference will be held Monday, May 23, and is the first leg of the show's Business Track, which also includes the Display Week Investors Conference and two Market Focus Conferences. This year's theme is Innovation: Move Ahead or Get Left Behind.
The display industry has proven to be a dynamic force driving technology advancements, but technology innovation does not always lead to market success. Innovative technologies have seen success and failure. Facing supply chain and consumer trend challenges, companies must develop strategies that enable new technologies and products to succeed in the continually evolving marketplace. Display Week's Business Conference brings together industry leaders, IHS analysts and attendees who seek insight into current market dynamics, emerging technologies and product trends that will transform the industry.
SID's incoming president, Yong-Seog Kim, will deliver the opening remarks, followed by Ben Keen, vice president of technology market intelligence for IHS. Following him will be a special address titled, "Innovations that will Change the Future Industry," by Chas Boyd, display architect for Direct3D and HLSL (High-Level Shading Language) at Microsoft. David Hsieh, IHS' senior director of displays, will next present on the topic, "Why Does Innovation Bypass the PC/IT Industry?" Attendees will then hear from IHS' Vinita Jakhanwal, director of displays and APAC research, on, "The Mobile Phone - the Hub of the Digital Universe."
Presenters during the various sessions represent a wide range of companies and technology providers, including 3M, Asahi Glass Co., Atom NanoElectronics, BOE, CYNORA, E Ink, General Motors, InfinLED, Intel Corp., Kateeva, Leyard International, LG Display, Merck, Nanosys and QD Vision. The sessions following the opening presentations will include moderated panel discussions during which presenters will respond to and debate key questions:
- Session I: Shifting Mobile PC Usage Habits & Small Display Innovations: Has Innovation Bypassed the PC market? – Companies will discuss ideas of cost versus innovation and spending in both PC and notebook markets.
- Session II: Digital Signage: Innovations in High-Brightness Indoor and Outdoor Displays – Industry experts will consider the latest innovations in digital signage, how these innovations may change the industry, and how to monetize installations.
- Session III: Emerging Display Technologies that Will Innovate the Future – Display types and applications continue to multiply; this session will explore technologies that deliver higher performance and lower cost, and offer insights on positioning for the future.
- Session IV: The 6-Year TV Cycle (HD-FHD-4K-8K): What Materials and Components Are Required to Drive the Next Upgrade Cycle? – Companies will discuss the many hurdles faced with the revolving door of "must-have" TV technology.
- Session V: Automotive: Innovations and Opportunities – This session delves into some of the most recent automotive display trends and the challenges ahead.
In addition to thought-provoking keynote addresses and presentations/panel discussions, the Business Conference features plenty of time to network during meals and breaks. And, after the sessions, a Networking Cocktail Reception/Special Beer Tasting Event will be held—offering a great opportunity to speak one-on-one with presenters in a social environment.
