Discoveries Worldwide Down First Quarter Says NewsRx™ BUTTER™ New Discovery Index™
Launching May 1, 2015, NewsRx™ BUTTER™ Tracks all New Worldwide Discoveries Using Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms, and Digital Journalists
ATLANTA, April 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- New discoveries worldwide for the first quarter of 2015 totaled 311,552, down from 319,153 the previous quarter. This is the first release of figures from the NewsRx™ BUTTER™ New Discovery Index™ (BUTTER NDI™) of May 1, 2015.
Discoveries worldwide happen at a rate of a new one every 23 seconds, according to NewsRx™ BUTTER™. Using artificial intelligence, algorithms, and digital journalists, NewsRx monitors all discoveries and writes an article about each. Of the 35,000 news articles added weekly to BUTTER™, 70% are about new discoveries.
BUTTER™ tracks new discoveries by 30-plus topics, including aerospace, defense, agriculture, food science, pharmaceuticals, therapies, energy, oil, gas, engineering, genetics, health, medicine, IT, and science. The platform has over 9.7 million articles with a new article added every 17 seconds.
Discoveries in genetics were up for the first quarter of 2015 at 8,816 vs. 8,737 the previous quarter. Nanotechnology new discoveries had one of the largest increases, with 10,224 new discoveries in the first quarter of 2015 vs. 9,186 the previous quarter. Climate change new discoveries also were up, with 1,339 in the first quarter of 2015 vs. 1,158 the previous quarter.
"The goal is to never miss any new discovery that takes place anywhere in the world," said COO Roscoe Smith.
NewsRx™ 15 years ago was the first company to combine artificial intelligence with digital journalism. According to Smith, "The NewsRx™ BUTTER™ technologies ensure that we have more news articles each day than any news organization reporting original content--twice the articles but with half the words."
Most NewsRx™ articles are 300-500 words, but some are several pages long. "Some new discoveries just demand longer articles, but we design all of our news for fast reading," Smith said, adding "all articles come with at least one citation, and half the content has more than one."
"We understand that credibility is the foundation of authority and transparent sourcing is the basis of credibility," Smith said.
The new BUTTER™ platform can power billions of annual searches and can take full-text search results and make them targeted, downloadable, and portable. Because NewsRx™ owns the platform's content, in minutes BUTTER™ users can automatically create full text reports on any topic with complete articles, chapters, indexes, and page numbers, and then distribute these to others.
