Discogs Delivers 2018 Data and Trends Report
10.9 Million Releases Sold, Sales Increase 8.6% Over 2017
PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 14, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Discogs, the world's largest music Community, Database, and Marketplace, today released their annual report containing Marketplace insights and Database analysis highlighting trends in consumer music purchasing habits and other data in the Discogs 2018 Year-End Report.

2018 was a record year for the Discogs Marketplace, with a total number of 10,912,527 items sold. The Marketplace continues to showcase some incredibly rare finds for Discogs, led by the sale of a Canadian production copy of Prince's Black Album at a record-breaking $27,500. The second most expensive record was a copy of Sex Pistol's God Save the Queen 7" Single which sold for a massive $15,822, surpassing a previous copy sold on Discogs in 2017 for $14,690.
Additionally, sales of cassettes continue to show substantial growth as tapes climb in a 24.08% increase over 2017, followed by CD sales achieving an 18.93% growth over 2017. Rock music took top honors as the most collected music genre in 2018, with an increase of 15.29% followed by the Electronic genre at 10.01%.
