DisclosureSave Integrates NFPA's Firewise® Program in Natural Hazard Disclosure Report
Partnership brings wildfire risk management to the forefront of California's real estate community
AUSTIN, Texas, March 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- DisclosureSave, LLC and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) announced today that DisclosureSave will integrate NFPA's Firewise Communities/USA® Recognition Program data into its California Natural Hazard Disclosure (NHD) report, starting April 5, 2016.
The Firewise® program encourages local solutions for wildfire safety, with the ultimate goal of saving lives and property from wildfire through the efforts of neighbors working together. Neighborhoods that complete the program are rewarded with a Firewise Communities/USA designation.
"The promotion and integration of the Firewise information into the buyer's Natural Hazard Disclosure Statement could not align better with the underlying statute, CA Civil Code Sec. 1103 and its purpose of proper disclosure and mitigation of fire risk to a California home buyer," said Chris Roussel, CEO of DisclosureSave. DisclosureSave's service to both real estate professionals and homeowners is invaluable in spreading Firewise awareness and encouraging participation across the state. As the California fire season lengthens year after year, providing an NHD report that highlights the existence of Firewise communities is indispensable to real estate agents and home buyers looking for neighborhoods that focus on safety.
NFPA launched its voluntary Firewise program in 2002 with 12 pilot neighborhoods. It has grown to nearly 1,300 active member communities across 40 states. In California, there are currently more than 110 active Firewise communities.
"People have many choices when it comes to buying a home, and many risks and benefits to weigh," said Michele Steinberg, manager of NFPA's wildland fire division. "Information about what they can do to be safer from wildfire risk, and how their new neighborhood may already be taking steps to be Firewise, is empowering for prospective home buyers. With this new partnership, DisclosureSave and NFPA continue to drive efforts to increase awareness and manage growing wildfire risk resulting from increased population in wildland-urban interface (WUI) areas."
