MCLEAN, Va., June 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Defense Industry Initiative (DII) on Business Ethics and Conduct has named Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAIC) CEO Anthony J. Moraco and Chief Ethics Officer Laura K. Kennedy as the organization's new Steering Committee Chair and Working Group Chair, respectively. Moraco and Kennedy succeed Lockheed Martin Corporation's CEO and President Marillyn A. Hewson and Vice President of Ethics and Sustainability Leo S. Mackay, Jr.
DII made the announcement at its annual Best Practices Forum in Washington, D.C. on June 6. DII is a nonpartisan, non-profit association of responsible U.S. defense companies committed to conducting business affairs at the highest ethical standards and in full compliance with the letter and spirit of the law.
"DII has been a guiding force helping the nation's top defense organizations to establish firm ethics and compliance programs for more than 28 years. SAIC is honored to be chosen for these key leadership positions in DII," said Moraco. "We look forward to our new roles within this organization and to promoting the best ethical practices for the defense industry."
In 1986, 18 of the nation's top defense companies created DII. They voluntarily agreed to establish written codes of business ethics and train employees to comply with them. Today, DII has 77 signatory companies comprising the top U.S. defense and security companies.
"SAIC strives to uphold the highest ethical standards. We have been involved with DII for many years and are deeply dedicated to its values. Assuming these leadership roles is a continuation of our involvement and our commitment to sustain and build on the contributions that DII has made to ethics in the defense community," said Kennedy.
Collectively, DII's signatory companies receive over $540 billion per year in federal funds. DII's essential strength lies in sharing best practices to maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct and to continually encourage employees to reach those high standards. DII also offers instructional resources, such as videos and webinars, to defense-industry companies.
