Digital Power Corporation Wins Major Naval Defense Contract
FREMONT, Calif., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Power Corporation (NYSE/Amex: DPW) has been awarded, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Digital Power Limited (DPL), a major contract to supply specialized battery charging equipment and batteries for a new submarine program in India. The multi-year, $850,000 contract runs through 2016.
The Digital Power battery charging systems have been designed into the Scorpene class submarines by the major French shipbuilder DCN and the shipbuilder Navantia in Spain.
Scorpene is a class of diesel-electric attack submarines developed jointly by DCN and Navantia. These submarines feature diesel propulsion and an optional air-independent propulsion (AIP) system. Scorpene class submarines patrol the sea at depths of up to 350 meters and are virtually undetectable. They travel at high speed for long periods and collect detailed information about their surroundings. A modular design provides for tailoring a submarine to the specific requirements of a customer and allows inclusion of current technological innovations to maintain operational superiority. The Scorpene design has been sold to a number of navies throughout the world.
Amos Kohn, president and CEO of Digital Power Corporation, says, "This major new contract through our wholly-owned subsidiary DPL is a follow-on to previous orders in support of Scorpene. It demonstrates Digital Power's advanced technical capabilities and reflects our customers' confidence in our equipment. It is a testament to our many years of experience in and commitment to naval power conversion and distribution."
