Digital Living Network Alliance Sees Nearly 200 Percent Increase in DLNA Certified® Printers in 2010
DLNA Certified® Printers from HP, Samsung, and Epson Answer Consumer Demand for Easy Sharing and Printing of Digital Content from Range of Devices
PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 30, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) has seen a nearly 200 percent increase in the number of DLNA Certified® printers over the last year. As the volume of digital content explodes and consumers will require the ability to print from all of the devices in their digital lives, market leaders HP, Samsung, and Epson have increased the combined number of DLNA Certified® printers from 14 in 2009 to 40 in 2010.
"The rapid growth in DLNA Certified® printers anticipates consumer demand for a fully connected and interactive home experience," said Nidhish Parikh, chairman and president of DLNA. "Given the proliferation of digital content, the ability to print images directly from DLNA Certified® devices without needing to install printer drivers is a critical step forward for consumer usability. DLNA standards have been developed to ensure that digital photographs can easily be shared across a range of TVs, cameras, camcorders, game consoles, PCs and printers."
Industry analyst firm IDC predicts that by 2020 all documents and forms of media will become digital. The new "Digital Universe" will be 44 times as large as it was in 2009 – growing to the digital equivalent of a stack of DVDs stretching halfway from Earth to Mars. This anticipated content explosion, and its ramifications on consumers' digital lives, makes easy sharing and printing of information from a broad range of devices increasingly important.
"Ensuring that our new Web connected printers are DLNA Certified® is an important step in helping our customers have a seamless experience when it comes to connectivity in the home," said Tuan Tran, vice president and general manager, Inkjet Consumer Solutions, HP. "HP continues to innovate and deliver new opportunities for families to access, enjoy and print content from any Web connected device, anytime, from anywhere."
"All Samsung Electronics wireless printers support DLNA," said Ken Colby, director of printer marketing, Samsung Electronics America. "With Samsung's DLNA Certified® printers, consumers can print from an assortment of products without a complex set-up process. Samsung's AllShare™ technology, featuring DLNA, provides great usability with an intuitive and unified user-interface among Samsung products."
"Epson was one of the first leading printer manufacturers to adopt DLNA standards," said Tsuyoshi Aoyama, general manager, Ink Jet Printer Planning and Design Department, Seiko Epson Corporation. "Customers with DLNA Certified® Epson printers and client devices are able to print digital images from many types of devices. Epson recognizes DLNA as an international standard for network communication, and we will continue to promote printing services based on this technology in order to make it an even more integral part of the mobile and home network ecosystem."
DLNA Certified® printers adhere to DLNA Interoperability Guidelines and have met rigorous interoperability tests. Consumers buying printers bearing the DLNA Certified® logo can be sure they are purchasing solutions that can be networked for easy printing from a range of devices.
