Digital Element's NetAcuity IPv6 Database Ensures Online Marketers Have Access to Largest Number of Users, Devices
As World IPv6 Day Approaches, Companies Are Advised to be Dual-Stacked by End of 2011
ATLANTA, June 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Element, the leading provider of geolocation and IP Intelligence technology, today announced its NetAcuity™ IPv6 geographic database is available to its customers to ensure access to the largest segment of end users and devices.
According to The Internet Society (ISOC), a nonprofit organization founded in 1992 to provide leadership in Internet related standards, education and policy, Google, Facebook, Yahoo!, Akamai and Limelight Networks will be among some of the major organizations that will offer their content over IPv6 for a 24-hour "test flight" on World IPv6 Day on this Wednesday. The goal of the Test Flight Day is to motivate organizations across the industry — Internet service providers, hardware makers, operating system vendors and web companies — to prepare their services for IPv6 to ensure a successful transition as IPv4 addresses run out.
"With IPv4 addresses expected to run out by the end of this year, businesses must move quickly towards full IPv6 adoption or risk losing access to a large segment of customers," said Jeff Burdette, director of research and development, Digital Element. "In time, there will be consumers who only have access to IPv6 — and if businesses have not yet caught up, they will unfortunately miss out on that revenue. For online marketers in particular, they simply won't be able to get their intended content across to a large proportion of users if websites are not IPv6 enabled. As such, IPv6 can no longer be considered an online 'nice to have' but must be seen as a critical new access method."
NetAcuity IPv6 Database Now Generally Available
Introduced for beta release in March, the NetAcuity IPv6 geographic database is now generally available to all customers as part of their accessible data and is currently part of the traditional geographic database update.
Digital Element revolutionized the geolocation space when it first introduced geolocation technology in 1999. The company quickly evolved this non-invasive technology to include much more than geographic information and now offers other IP Intelligence factors such as Connection Speed, NAICS codes, Home/Business user, SIC Codes, Domain Name, Company Name, Organization Name, ISP, Language, and more. In 2009, Digital Element introduced the only validated, partner-contributed geographic ZIP code and postcode level data, giving marketers reliable and accurate hyperlocal targeting capabilities. The new IPv6 database represents the next evolution in the company's NetAcuity technology.
Burdette's advice to businesses, "Get your web presence dual-stacked by the end of this year in order to enable both IPv4 and IPv6 access for consumers. Companies should be relentless in pressing their ISPs to provide IPv6 access, as this will be vital in ensuring the success of any business's online endeavors."
