Digital Assent CEO Named 2012 Business Person of the Year by Metro Atlanta Chamber
Andrew Ibbotson Recognized as Top Early Stage Entrepreneur
ATLANTA, June 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Assent, a fast-growing healthcare media and marketing company headquartered in Atlanta, today announced company founder and CEO, Andrew Ibbotson, was named 2012 "Business Person of the Year" by the Metro Atlanta Chamber for his accomplishments as an early stage entrepreneur.
Each year the Metro Atlanta Chamber and the Atlanta Business Chronicle honor outstanding business professionals from around metro Atlanta through the Business Person of the Year Awards. This year's finalists and winners were recognized at the Business Person of the Year Awards luncheon on June 7 at the W Atlanta Midtown.
"This award offers a great opportunity for me and my team to reflect on everything we've accomplished over the past couple of years," said Ibbotson. "I would like to thank the Metro Atlanta Chamber and this year's selection committee for everything they do to support innovation and entrepreneurship in Atlanta. Most of all, I would like to thank my co-workers and investors for their tireless dedication and support. With out them, none of this would be possible."
Digital Assent's PatientPad® technology helps automate patient intake at the doctor's office and delivers personalized health information and advertising to patients right before they meet with their healthcare provider. "When a patient walks in the door, instead of being handed a clipboard with forms, the front desk hands them a PatientPad tablet and asks them to sign in on the pad," explained Ibbotson. "Patients are instructed to hold onto the tablet while they wait to learn more about the practice, browse relevant health topics and explore treatment options."
John Maurelus, senior vice president of small business banking at Bank of America and a judge for the awards said, "Innovation is a skill that Andy has shown he can do over and over again and be successful at it. Not only is he creating a new business from the bottom up, but he is also using new technology. He had his own tablets created before the iPad came out. Now he is utilizing the iPad."
When Ibbotson created Digital Assent and developed the concept for PatientPad, it was six months before anyone had heard of the iPad. "We had to source our first generation tablets from a contract manufacturer in Taiwan," commented Ibbotson. "It's taken us until this week to deliver a drop-proof, germ-resistant and HIPAA-compliant PatientPad solution on the iPad platform." Ibbotson was at a healthcare industry conference in Las Vegas just hours before the Business Person of the Year Awards luncheon announcing the launch of the company's new PatientPad software and hardware solution.
