Digiplex Destinations Presents Hollywood Hits In Spanish
Cinemas in Apple Valley and San Diego, California and Reading, Pennsylvania Leverage Digital Technology to Serve Diverse Audiences
WESTFIELD, N.J., March 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Cinema Destinations Corp. (NASDAQ CM: DCIN) (Digiplex), today announced that select Digiplex Destinations theater locations will begin presenting special engagements of major Hollywood movie releases with both Spanish and English sound tracks. The rapidly expanding motion picture exhibitor is transforming movie theaters into digital entertainment centers and taking full advantage of new technologies to serve diverse audiences and present an expanding array of entertainment options.
Digiplex has already leveraged digital technology to present entertainment alternatives ranging from live sporting events to Broadway shows and opera from The Met to audiences around the country. Now, the same technology is being harnessed to present mainstream movies in different languages.
The first movies in Spanish from the Digiplex series include GI JOE – RETALIATION starring Bruce Willis on April 1, 8 and 15; OBLIVION starring Tom Cruise on April 22 and 29; IRON MAN 3 with Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow on May 6 and 13; STAR TREK – INTO DARKNESS on May 20 and the animated family feature EPIC on May 27. Additional titles will be announced as they become available. Many of the titles will feature Spanish audio tracks as well as English subtitles, enabling speakers of both languages to follow the story lines.
"At Digiplex, we're leveraging technology in innovative ways to enhance entertainment options for our patrons," said Bud Mayo, the Company's President and CEO, "The Latino populations in San Diego, San Bernardino and Berks Counties have grown substantially in recent years. These special engagements will give multi-generational Latino families the opportunity to enjoy great motion picture entertainment together by bridging language gaps. For students of Spanish who are native English speakers, these films also present a new and engaging way to improve their skills." Mayo stated that Digiplex will be responsive to audience interest by expanding the number of movie titles, show schedules and the number of locations offering the movies. Movies in the series will only be rated G, PG or PG-13 to be as inclusive as possible and offer a mix of family-friendly animation, action, adventure, comedy and drama.
