DigiCert Earns Spot on Online Trust Alliance Honor Roll for Leadership in Online Security, Privacy

While reviewing industry progress to adopt leading online security and privacy practices, the 2017 OTA Honor Roll notes the growing progress toward encrypting the web by default. This year's survey unveiled dramatic growth in TLS, commonly referred to as SSL, with adoption increasing from an average of 23 percent in 2015 to more than 65 percent in 2017.

The Honor Roll also measures the growth rate of use of extended validation (EV) certificates, the strongest form of certificate owner identity vetting, which increased by 13 percent over 2016. The OTA recommends EV over domain validation (DV) certificates to protect against an increasing trend in cyber criminals using DV certificates for phishing campaigns and other online deception.

Since 2008, the OTA has published the Honor Roll to drive awareness and adoption of best practices for online security and privacy. Each year, more companies qualify for the Honor Roll, even as the OTA increases the standards by which organizations are measured.
