SOUTH NORWALK, Conn., July 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In a surprise outcome to a contest that neither participant knew they were in, Elvis has defeated Etta James.

For the past few years Etta James' classic "At Last" has topped every survey of GigMasters' brides and grooms for First Dance choice. But this summer wedding season, Etta has been defeated by heavy-hitter Elvis. In a recent survey of summer 2011 brides and grooms, a majority listed "Can't Help Falling in Love with You" by Elvis as their choice for first dance, but no one chose the Etta James classic "At Last." This is especially surprising in a year when many wedding blogs were featuring "Jazz" as a top wedding theme.
Is Etta's falling out of favor a sign of other traditions falling by the wayside? Not necessarily. Most brides and grooms are still planning all the traditional dances (Father/Daughter, Mother/Son) and most importantly, the "Chicken Dance" and "Macarena" still top the Don't Play lists.
Marta Segal Block, GigMasters Editorial Director says, "We don't think Etta James is gone for the long haul, but this just shows the importance of having on-going communication with brides and grooms to stay on top of how weddings are changing."
