Dickey's Barbecue Pit Expands With New Location in DFW
Country's Fastest Growing Barbecue Chain Adds New Location to DFW Metroplex
DALLAS, May 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Philip Lezar and his mother, Merrie Spaeth, announce their initial plans to open a Dickey's Barbecue Pit, the largest quick-serve barbecue chain in the country, in Dallas.
"We started out loving the food, from the brisket to the sausage to the sides to the desserts. Then we met the people and realized they were as special as the food. Then we examined their business model. We were impressed. We love the fact that we have a lot of confidence in their future," said the new owner/operator Philip Lezar, a graduate of Texas Tech University and avid fly fisher.
This is the first Dickey's Barbecue franchise opportunity for Philip and Merrie, who were looking for a business venture they could embark on together.
"We're Texans. DFW is Dickey's birthplace, and we wanted to start here, close to the mothership," Merrie said, a former media director in the White House under President Reagan. "Dickey's is well established but early in the growth curve for a franchise business. The management is very hands on and has an excellent support system."
The mother and son duo are eager to open the new Dickey's Barbecue Pit location that will serve up pit-smoked signature meats, a vast array of home-style sides and complimentary ice cream for every customer.
"We are thrilled Merrie and Philip will be opening a new location in DFW. This is our community and we are very excited to expand the Dickey's Barbecue presence here," President of Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. Roland Dickey, Jr. said. "As our company grows, we grow as a family. This is another great opportunity for the company."
Texas-based Dickey's Barbecue Pit opened in 1941 and began franchising in 1994. Dickey's Barbecue Pit is well-known for their hot pit-smoked signature meats, complimentary ice cream and the big yellow cups.
Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. plans to open 70 more franchise locations in 2011, putting its year-end target at 200.
The preparation prior to opening a Dickey's franchise is extensive, ensuring that owner/operators are thoroughly prepared to hit the ground running.
"We have so many new owner/operators who are investing with us. With this economy, we are glad people trust us for success and we certainly don't take that for granted. Their victory is our victory and we don't plan on going anywhere but up," Dickey said.
The original Dallas location is still open for business and Dickey's Barbecue Pit is still owned and operated by the Dickey Family.
There are 146 locations in 33 states.
Even today, Dickey's still slow smokes all of their signature meats overnight in every restaurant.
