DALLAS, July 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Dickey's Barbecue Pit's charitable foundation Barbecue, Boots & Badges is partnering with Toyota of Rockwall for the Officer Ellis Fundraiser benefitting Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police Officer Justin Ellis, who was seriously injured on-duty. The goal of the Officer Ellis Fundraiser is to raise funds to provide Officer Ellis with a wheelchair-accessible vehicle so that he may return to serving the community he loves.
This weekend and next weekend, any contribution made to Barbecue, Boots & Badges both on site at Toyota of Rockwall and online on the foundation website will go directly to the Officer Ellis Fundraiser. In addition, Toyota of Rockwall will donate service department proceeds from these two weekends to the cause.
DART Police Officer Ellis was seriously injured in an on-duty motorcycle crash while responding to a police service call in October of last year. He sustained major, life-threatening injuries resulting in the loss of his ability to walk and will be confined to a wheelchair for the foreseeable future.
"Officer Ellis is a truly dedicated member of the police force who put his life on the line serving our community," said Maurine Dickey, the founder of Barbecue, Boots & Badges. "We are inspired by his dedication and honored to support him in his efforts to continue keeping Dallas safe."
