MODESTO, Calif., Jan. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Who's Who/- Diane E. Watson is recognized by Continental Who's Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Government Leadership. Diane is a retired U.S. Representative who represented the 33rd Congressional District in the United States Congress, and is recognized for her excellent, dedicated professionalism.
Diane spent almost a decade as a U.S. Representative for the 33rd Congressional District, advocating on behalf of Culver City, Hollywood, Koreatown and Silver Lake. In this position, she implemented policies to improve the state of health care, social services, education and housing. She also served on the governmental and foreign committees.
Prior to her position with the U.S. Government, Diane served as an educator and elected member of the Los Angeles Board of Education. Beginning her career in the Government sector in 1975 Diane was elected to the California State Senate where she advocated healthcare, consumer protection, and women and children. During her terms in the State Senate she was responsible for authoring the California Birth Defects Monitoring Program Act and the Residential Care Facilities Act in addition to strengthening legislation on food and health safety requirements. As Chair of the Health and Human Service Committee she also served on the Judiciary Committee.
One of her greatest professional accomplishments came in 1999 when President William Jefferson Clinton appointed her to serve as the United States Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia. She served in this position until 2001, when she returned to run for Congress in a special election held on June 5, 2001. Following the election, she had to stand for reelection on November 5, 2002 to a full two year term and has served in each succeeding Congress.
Furthermore, as a reflection of her dedication to both education and the governmental sector, she was also a member of many prestigious professional organizations. These associations include United Teachers Los Angeles; the National Urban League; the National Education Association; the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; Alpha Kappa Alpha Society and the Council of American Ambassadors.
Ms. Watson received her Associates of Arts degree from Los Angeles Community College; Bachelor of Arts from UCLA in Education; Master of Science Degree from California State University and holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Claremont Graduate University.
