LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Diane E. Watson is recognized by Continental Who's Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Government Leaders. Diane is a U.S. Representative representing the 33rd Congressional District in the United States Congress, and is recognized as a result of her excellence, dedication and professionalism.
Currently, Diane has spent almost a decade as a U.S. Representative of the 33rd Congressional District, advocating for Culver City, Hollywood, Careertown and Silver Lakes. In this position, she implements policies to improve the state of health care, social services, education and housing. She also oversees governmental and foreign affairs.
Prior to her position with the U.S. Government, Diane worked for two decades as an educator and elected member of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education. When her career in the Government sector began in 1978, Diane became an elected official of the California State Senate where she advocated for health care, consumer protection, and women and children, nationwide. During this term, Diane was responsible for authoring the California Birth Defects Monitoring Program Act and the Residential Care Facilities Act, in addition to strengthening legislation on food and health safety requirements. She served on the Senate Health and Human Services Committee as well as the Senate Judiciary Committee.
One of Diane's greatest professional accomplishments came in 1999 when President William Jefferson Clinton appointed her to serve as the United States Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia. She served in this role until 2001, when she returned to California to run for Congress in a special election held on June 5, 2001. Following the election, Diane was reelected on November 5, 2002 to a full two year term and has served in each succeeding Congress.
Furthermore, as a reflection of her dedication to both education and government sectors, Diane is a member of many prestigious professional organizations. These associations include United Teachers Los Angeles; the National Urban League; the National Education Association; the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; Alpha Kappa Alpha and the Council of American Ambassadors.
Diane holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Claremont Graduate University, as well as a Master of Science Degree from California State University at Los Angeles. In addition, Diane received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and an Associate of Arts Degree from Los Angeles Community College.
