Diana Jenkins Calls Ejup Ganic Decision Victory in Effort to Bring True War Criminals to Justice
LONDON, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Businesswoman and human rights activist Diana Jenkins today issued the following statement regarding the London court decision rejecting Serbia's request to extradite Ejup Ganic:
"Today's decision is a victory for everyone working to bring true war criminals to justice. Dr. Ganic's name had already been cleared and now there should be no doubt of his innocence. Serbia's extradition request was nothing more than a politically motivated attempt to distract attention from the ongoing trial of Radovan Karadzic and to change the character of the war in Bosnia. We must all now return to the most important work which is ensuring that those truly responsible for genocide, mass murder and atrocities in the Balkans and around the world answer for their crimes regardless of their position."
Dr. Ganic was detained March 1 at Heathrow Airport on a Serbian extradition warrant. Diana Jenkins posted Dr. Ganic's bail so he could fight the warrant as a free man. The extradition request was rejected Tuesday by a London judge.
