Diamond Dallas Page (DDP) to Be Inducted into National Wrestling Hall of Fame by Mick Foley on July 18th 2014
NEW YORK, July 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, July 18th 2014, Wrestling superstar Diamond Dallas Page can officially add "Hall of Fame Inductee" to his already impressive pro wrestling legacy: Page is headed to Waterloo Iowa to be inducted into The National Wrestling Hall of Fame by wrestling icon Mick Foley at the Dan Gable Museum.
Page will receive the Frank Gotch Award for bringing positive recognition to professional wrestling through work outside the ring. Page is currently a fitness instructor and an actor. His DDP yoga series has had worldwide appeal, which has led to healthier lifestyles. Page was a popular professional wrestler with WWE, WCW, and TNA. He was a four-time WCW World Heavyweight champion, two-time WCW United States champion, four-time WCW World Tag Team champion, and one-time WCW World Television champion.
Criteria for induction into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame includes substantial impact on professional wrestling, general respect within the profession, and a strong amateur wrestling background. The selection committee includes all living hall of fame members as well as a select group of wrestling historians.
A special committee also selects four award winners to enter the Hall of Fame. In addition to Page, this year's award winners include Larry "The Axe" Hennig (Lou Thesz Award), Randy Couture (George Tragos Award), and Larry Matysik (Jim Melby Award).
"This Hall of Fame represents the highest standard in professional wrestling," said Gerry Brisco, president of the selection committee. "This is a special weekend that continues to grow every year. I am proud of this induction class."
As a former pro wrestling superstar, Page has reinvented himself as a maverick fitness guru, with the creation of his own workout system that combines dynamic resistance, flexibility, and cardio. Frustrated with traditional yoga, Page invented DDP YOGA as a way to rehabilitate himself while suffering from a career-threating injury. After creating and following the program, Page not only bounced back—he went on to win another world title. DDP YOGA has become hugely popular among current and past athletes, as well as regular people who are seeking to overhaul their health and fitness with a low-impact but amazingly effective calorie-blasting, muscle-building workout.
Tickets to the banquet are $50, which includes dinner, social hour, and induction speeches. Anyone interested in attending should contact the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum at (319) 233-0745 or [email protected]. Tickets can also be ordered online by clicking here. All proceeds benefit that National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum, a not-for-profit organization based out of Waterloo, Iowa. The mission of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame is to preserve history, recognize excellence, and inspire future generations.
