Diamante Team Competes at World Club Championships
Joins select group of club amateurs on Korea's Jeju Island and in Seoul
JEJU ISLAND, South Korea, May 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Diamante Cabo San Lucas, a private oceanfront community on the Baja Peninsula in Mexico, is participating this week in the World Club Championship in Korea.
The 8th annual tournament is one of the premier amateur golf events in the world and brings together 20 clubs from 15 countries selected from Golf Magazine's 2009 Top 100 Courses in the World list and a select group of additional invitees. As a new course, Diamante was not eligible for the Golf Magazine "Top 100" survey two years ago, but was recently named the "Top New International Course in 2010" by the magazine. Diamante is currently under consideration for the next Golf Magazine "Top 100" list, which will be released this fall.
The World Cup Tournament from May 16 to May 20 will be held at two Korean courses: The Club at Nine Bridges on Jeju Island, ranked #55 by Golf Magazine, and Haesley Nine Bridges in Seoul. The field of 20 two-person teams will play a 36-hole stroke play qualification tournament, with the first four teams moving on to a match play championship in order to determine the winner.
Joining team members Richard Umani and Chris Terebesi at the tournament in Korea is Diamante Founder, Ken Jowdy. Diamante updates will be available on Ken Jowdy's Twitter Feed (@kenjowdy), Facebook page (facebook.com/kenjowdy) and Chris and Rick's blog – http://chrisandrickinkorea.wordpress.com.
"We are honored to be invited to the World Club Championship," said Ken Jowdy. "I look forward to a great tournament and meeting the teams representing the very best golf clubs in the world."
The Dunes Course at Diamante is an 18-hole championship course designed by Tour Professional and U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III. It opened to acclaim from golf professionals and the press, including appearances on the front covers of Links Magazine, Golf Life & Travel, Golf Destinations and Best Golf Guide to Mexico. The Dunes Course at Diamante was also named "Top New International Course in 2010" in the December 2010 issue of Golf Magazine.
