PARSIPPANY, N.J., Sept. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Dialogic, a cloud-optimized applications and infrastructure solutions provider for service providers, enterprises, and developers, announced today the rollout of its Cloud/Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) test bed and product proving ground based on the Open Platform for Network Functions Virtualization (OPNFV) OpenStack-based Virtualized Infrastructure Manager (VIM). The OPNFV Cloud/NFV proving ground, a Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) environment, will provide automated management and configuration of Dialogic's internal compute, storage, and networking resources used for the developmental cloud compatibility and functionality testing of Dialogic's virtualized media, signaling, and application layer solutions. It will initially be based on the OPNFV Brahmaputra release.
The OPNFV VIM was built with telco customer deployments in mind. One of the functions of OPNFV is to provide a reference platform for implementing systems to manage COTS servers and networking resources of large data centers that make up the next evolutionary step in telco infrastructure deployments. It combines OpenStack, OpenDaylight, and various other open source components to provide a standardized cloud operating system and Software Defined Networking (SDN) to deploy Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs) without the need for proprietary purpose-built hardware traditionally used to build service provider networks.
"We see our OPNFV Cloud/NFV proving ground helping to make more efficient use of the large number of discrete COTS servers we've been using for quality assurance, performance, and compatibility testing for our media and real-time load balancing products," said Jim Machi, SVP of Product Management and Marketing. "By automating the implementation of our internal compute, storage, and network resources, we'll be able to reduce the development time and cost for testing and validating functionality and cloud compatibility of our Dialogic virtualized solutions."
The OPNFV organization has been gaining ground with carriers and software infrastructure vendors. As of September 2016, there are 59 member companies engaged in OPNFV with developers working on 47 open source projects.
"We are pleased to see Dialogic on the forefront of implementing real-world OPNFV deployments," said Heather Kirksey, Director at OPNFV. "As open source NFV continues to scale, it's encouraging to see the work and collaboration of the OPNFV community come to fruition and play a big role in Dialogic's testing and automation."
Dialogic's current portfolio of virtualized solutions includes the PowerMedia® XMS Media Resource Function (MRF), PowerMedia® Media Resource Broker (MRB), PowerVille™ Load Balancer, ControlSwitch™ System IMS/VoLTE softswitch, DSI G5V Signaling Controller, PowerVille™ Applications, and BorderNet™ Virtualized Session Border Controller.
