Diageo North America Receives A 2018 Supply & Demand Chain Executive Green Supply Chain Award

NORWALK, Conn., Dec. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Diageo North America, a global leader in beverage alcohol, announced that it has received a 2018 Supply & Demand Chain Executive Green Supply Chain Award. Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine covers the entire end-to-end global supply chain across vertical markets.

The Green Supply Chain Award recognizes companies making green or sustainability a core part of their supply chain strategy and are working to achieve measurable sustainability goals within their own operations and supply chains.

In addition to investing in new technologies and processes to support its sustainability strategy, Diageo promotes responsible practices throughout its entire supply chain. The company has published "Partnering with Suppliers Standard" guidance to drive higher standards in its supply chain, and participates in the CDP Supply Chain Program, which reports annual supplier carbon and water performance. In 2018, Diageo North America received an Environmental Merit Award for achieving significant progress in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) SmartWay program, a voluntary public-private program, which helps companies advance supply chain sustainability by measuring and benchmarking freight transportation efficiency.

The company also collaborates with suppliers, other consumer goods companies, and industry associations including AIM PROGRESS for responsible sourcing, the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX) to improve supply chain and industry practices, the Glass Recycling Coalition and the Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable.

Diageo's Commitment to Environmental Sustainability:
In 2008, Diageo established challenging targets (using a 2007 baseline) to achieve sustainability improvements by 2015. These targets were extended in 2015 and the updated "Sustainability and Responsibility Targets for 2020" reflect Diageo's commitment to reduce the environmental impact of its supply chain, beyond its own operations. These targets build on achievements to date and are aligned with the emerging United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In 2017, the company launched new Global Plastics and Packaging Guidelines.

Diageo was recognized as a top global company in the 2018 Dow Jones Sustainability Index and ranked sixth in the 2017 Carbon Clear report on the sustainability performance of the FTSE 100.
