Governor Rick Snyder Signs Bills that Maintain Blood Alcohol Content Limit of .08 Percent For Drivers

NORWALK, Conn., May 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Diageo, the world's leading spirits, wine and beer company and industry leader in promoting responsible drinking, applauds the Michigan House, Senate and Governor for passing legislation to maintain .08 as the Blood Alcohol Content limit for drivers. Governor Rick Snyder has signed House Bill 4093, sponsored by Andrea LaFontaine (R-32), and House Bill 4131, sponsored by Klint Kesto (R-39), that will help reduce impaired driving and protect public safety across Michigan.

House Bill 4093 maintains the legal blood alcohol content limit for drivers at .08 percent, preventing a sunset provision in the current law that would have allowed the limit to revert back to .10 percent in October. House Bill 4131 sets out the sentencing guidelines for people who operate a vehicle above the .08 limit. Both bills passed the House in March, passed the Senate in April, were signed by the Governor last Thursday, and take effect immediately.
