Diacore Gaborone Marathon Registration Sets the Pace for 2015
LONDON, February 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
With the Diacore Gaborone Marathon set to take off in just over a month this is the perfect time to reflect on the incredible journey of Botswana's largest running for charity event.
Since title sponsor Diacore adopted the race in 2012 it has grown from 3,000 to well over 5,000 participants with over a million Pula being awarded to over 30 deserving charities by Diacore in conjunction with co-sponsors Stanbic, Mascom and GIA. One of the most notable contributions of the marathon has been the 400,000 Pula donated to the Gaborone Squash Club, which has gone a long way in allowing the club the much needed resources to completely renovate their facilities.
The Diacore Gaborone Marathon has always been a supporter of a holistic approach to national sports and athletics development and the squash club is a perfect testament to this. The relationship is a real world example of synergy between different sporting codes and a shining example of how two initiatives that are geared towards health and wellness can work together to achieve so much more than they could individually. To mark this auspicious occasion the Honourable Minister Kitso Mokaila who has been an avid supporter and ambassador of the Diacore Gaborone Marathon will be officially handing over the newly renovated facilities on the 10th of February 2015 in front of members of the media, Diacore Gaborone Marathon sponsors and other invited guests. The marathon continues to be humbled and indebted to the Honourable Minister for his continued and unwavering support.
Nir Livnat, Diacore Chairman, has acknowledged and thanked Honourable Minister Kitso Mokaila for his leadership and support of the marathon and social contribution.
Registration for the March 22nd Diacore Gaborone Marathon is now officially closed. Diacore would like to thank everyone who has registered and we encourage them to train and prepare sufficiently for the race. The marathon also encourages the general public to come out and support the runners on race day as well as share in all the festivities at the Grand Palm.
All proceeds from the Diacore Gaborone Marathon are awarded to charity and as such Diacore and its co-sponsors are proud to support Botswana through sport, education and charity. In 2014 we raised a record breaking P615,000.00, this year we look to do even better than that. Thanks for all runners and sponsors for their continued support.
The Diacore Gaborone Marathon thanks our proud and loyal sponsors Diacore, Stanbic Bank, Mascom, Gemmological Institute of America (GIA), Coca cola and Grand Palm.
